Charcot Osteoarthropathy

Charcot osteoarthropathy is a condition most commonly associated with diabetes, however it can occur as a result of any medical condition that causes a loss of feeling in the foot. The symptoms of Charcot osteoarthropathy includes swelling, redness, and warmth of the foot/ankle with little or no pain. With Charcot, the bones of the foot and/or ankle shift and dislocate. The bones may also fracture (break). The result of this shifting and breaking is often a deformed foot/ankle.

This can be a very serious condition and if you experience the above symptoms or know someone who is, make an appointment with a foot and ankle physician immediately. The sooner this diagnosis is reached, the better the outcome a person will have.
